Plunge vs fixed base routers

I felt it was cheaply made. It was given to me at the furniture department to use. I tried it and threw it back in the cabinet For the next 7 years.

Didn't trust it when I locked it into place,

Mine is NOT cheaply made. It's as heavy as I would want it to be. Very little plastic on it.
To insure it stays locked, just apply more force to the release lever in the locked position.
It doesn't take much to really hold it in place.
I don't consider 7 years in a cabinet real, first hand, useful experience.
But if that's your opinion, so be it.
