Delta/Rockwell 28-300 refresh.

Well I picked up a Rockwell 28-300 wood and metal cutting bandsaw at the scrapyard for $35. It looked really ugly but was mostly there so I thought I would get it going or sell the parts. Either way I could not really loose. Any way turns out after hooking the motor up it works. And the gearbox works fine. Attached is a picture as it looked from the scrap yard.

So as of now it is all repainted. And I am working on getting the upper and lower guide assemblies cleaned up. I just ordered new bearings for them as they were shot. The bearings for the wheels seem OK so I am holding on on changing them as money is tight.

What I need to track down now are the upper and lower wheel covers. I know I lot covers off other models will work. So hopefully they will not be to hard to find. The other covers on the base and the clutch I can make as they are just flat.

I also need to order new tires. Are the urethane ones the way to go?

That was an excellent find. Yes, the urethane tires will work well. I put a set on my BS, it is a Taiwan copy of the Delta 14-inch. The change reduced vibrations in mine. If push came to shove you could also make the upper and lower wheel covers from wood while you watch for metal ones.

You can save money on the bearings if you get them for a local bearing supplier. All you need to do is remove the old ones and take them with you. They will have numbers on the casing. Even with no numbers they will measure them for you and find you a replacement.

With a little paint and some TLC you will have a great saw. Good luck

Great find for 35 bucks! + 1 on the urethane tires, they work great and are easy to install. I had a Reliant 14" before I got my Delta and it is an exact copy of the Delta and the covers will fit. Sometimes you can find them on Craigslist for cheap.
