Hoping that someone who is good at using this program can let me know how to get change whatever setting to get the program to lay out my pcs with the grain.

I have some pieces of pine 1.5 x 13.5 and I need them to have the grain running along the 13" side, but cutlist is laying them out the opposite way on the boards.

Can you manually rotate the layout of the parts? I have tried the 'styles' button, but either prefer ripcuts or cross cuts does not give me the desired layout.

Try switching the dimensions in your setup frame. i.e; you currently have the board set up as 1.5 x 13.5 change it to 13.5x1.5. I haven't used it that much but I think it assumes the grain is vertical. I haven't tried manual arrangements yet. still playing with plywood projects just trying to get economical layouts.
Let me know what happens:smile:

You may need to go to your "Raw Materials List" and check to see how you input the board dimensions. Your "Style" button simply tells the program if you prefer to make "Rip Cuts" or "Cross Cuts" It has nothing to do with grain direction. Also, check how you are entering your measurements on the parts page. Is it possible you have some boards switched, length versus width? I hope this helps, because I've always found it to be a good program.

It is doing this with all but one of the layout diagrams. But for best example, I have several pieces that are dimensioned lumber 1x2, they are input into the materials list with the width being 1 1/2", length 96". My parts tab shows pieces as width 1 1/2" and lengths are all the various lengths I required.
I imported the parts list from the output of the Cutlist plug in for sketchup, it has worked great in the past and really to look at it, it looks fine this time as well. Guess I can switch the width and length around in the parts tab, but shouldn't have to do that...

Now I have just noticed something, on my Raw Materials tab when I select my 'Pine" the section "Material Info" is greyed out but I can see that the check boxes that ARE checked (automatically I assume) are the "material has grain" and "Always draw layouts with the longer dimension horizontal". Which is great, the way it should be....but why is program NOT laying out the longest dimension horizontal....?

As my daughter would say...I was a stupid head. The layout view was stretched and it gave me the wrong impression of the parts layout...they were in fact laid out properly all along, just being stretched, they looked like they were oriented the wrong way.

Apologies for wasting peoples time

Welcome to the forum.
This is the program you are using? I've just used it a few times for plywood, so still a beginner with it.
Some things to try:
For each stock and panel item in the right hand column there is an *, if you hover over it it says "No grain consideration", experiment with that.
Or when you enter the size of your stock exchange the length and width.

I don't use it for dimensional lumber, only sheet good. If you go to Materials when you select the material there is a setting "Material Info > "Has grain". I just checked on mine it only works for sheet goods.

Have you tried setting "First Cut Direction > With Grain?

It may have something to do with the parts sizes.

Its not for designing cabs, its for creating cut lists and layouts. The best feature is the cutting diagrams. Saves a WHOLE lot of figuring and waste on sheet goods.
