Butcher Block Desk Monitor Mounting

Hey Everyone,

I recently put together a desk using two Ikea Alex Drawers as the legs, and a 6'x2'x1.5" Birch Butcher Block as the desk top. I want to use a monitor stand that clamps to the edge of the desktop and will probably hold about 40 lbs worth of monitors.

So my desk has roughly 42" of unsupported desktop in the center, and if I clamp the stand in the center of that, do you think the 40lbs of pressure will cause my desk to bow or even crack over the long term?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Without knowing anything about the butcher block top, my guess is that it will probably sag after a few years. 40 pounds isn't a lot, but you are probably not only going to have the monitors on the top....it will gather other stuff too. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it does, you can always add some support underneath it later. I would go with what Woody said..."It should be just fine".
