Thanks, that gets me part way there. I see from your photo that the long end of the spring sits on top of the spring pin (the schematic shows the short end is up, as well, so I had that part right!!).

The photo also shows that the short end of the spring is to the left of the motor bracket (left looking at it as the same as your photo).

But now the challenge is how do I get the spring compressed, on to the motor bracket spindle, and then to the left of the bracket, all the while holding this heavy bugger in place?

Does one have to pull the spring pin back, compress the spring and then drive the spring pin back?.

Actually, I may have to pull the motor bracket partway off the spindle in order to get the motor spring off the shaft and reposition it to the left of the motor bracket.

Heck, there must be a trick here!

 

I had the same problem when I put the same saw together. I even believe that the picture above is from my saw. The spring is not hard to compress with your fingers while pushing the motor up, I believe. It kind of just sits there. At least that is the way I have it put it back. Thanks for the scads of help. The pictures were worth a thousand words, so it goes.

I lowered the motor down as far as it would go, slid the bracket off the spindles about halfway and then I could reposition the spring so that it was consistent with the pictures provided.
