I figured here would be my most reliable source to find an older jack plane of good quality. I am just getting into wood working and was wanting a good basic plane that doesn't need a bunch of resto work. I know there are a ton on eBay but don't want to take my chances.

If someone here already has a good worker jack plane that they want to part with please pm me with details. If you need to buy one and restore it let me know what I would be looking at for price. Basically want a good plane with good steel that works right the first time. I would rather do planing by hand but don't want to get discouraged with a bad tool from the get go.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for helping a fellow just starting to build his tool collection.

Alaska Guy, there are several members here who can help you out.

BZawat has a thread where he is selling planes and said he has a no 5 available soon.

Timetested tools also often has some really nice planes for sale.

I have a no 5 that I'd love to get rid of, waiting for the linseed oil to finish drying on the handles and she is going up for sale. Unfortunately, it would benefit from a new blade. It has Stanley blade, but it feels light. Maybe someone replaced it along with way.
