So I refinished my hardwood floors and I figured I did such a good job I wanted to do some more woodworking. So I selected a project to make a hanging coat rack with two storage bins for gloves and hats. My issue is wood selection. I want to stain it a dark mahogany color and put a high gloss finish and make it look very smooth. Since its hanging on a wall I don't want it to be too heavy. Does the wood need to be strong? The pegs will be iron/metal so the strength will be needed for the hanging strip. Would it be a good idea to use a high strength wood for the hanging strip and another species for everything else? Not sure if that is common in woodworking. Any suggestions and places to do more internet research on-line? Thanks Folks!!!
