I have been doing a lot of pallet projects and building tables coat takes etc out of pallets they look great but need some help. What is better polyurethane or clear varnish whats the difference I stained by wood with a coat and then added polyurethane looks good but is clear varnish better????

In general, most finishers will like non-poly varnish better than polyurethane. Varnish is more clear and doesn't take on a "plastic" look.

The problem is that there are few non-poly varnishes available these days. Waterlox Original, Pratt & Lambert 38 and Sherwin Williams Fast Dry Varnish are the most readily available.

Poly varnishes are best for high abuse surfaces like floors, kitchen table tops or other high abuse applications.
