Hi all woodturners<
I am a keen wood turner, having made quite a few standing lamps, can anyone help and tell me how to dry wet tree stumps without it cracking during drying. ? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
Welcome to the forum. You can do a search here and find several threads about this. There is no way I know of that will completely prevent checks. You need to seal the open faces of the wood with wax, latex paint or Anchorseal which is available here not sure where you are.
The pith (center/heart) of the wood is where the checks usually start so if you can remove that and the seal your pieces. hope that helps.
There are plans to build a kiln on this site (I think forum members can buy them for $20), with support from the designer to help with the build...that could help...
