Plan on building two nightstands and an entertainment center for my daughters bedroom. I was planning on maple (to match her bed) with ambrosia tops but have thought about ash bodies to save about half the money. Would it match good enough? Could be up to about a hundred dollar savings. I can't find any examples to decide and am relatively new to furniture and the different woods. Thanks.

A lot depends on what you plan for finish. Ash and maple take stain differently. As far as if it's going to match "good enough" well that is a call you are going to have to decide. I would take a small piece of each and finish then as you plan on doing the stand. Then you can see if the saving is worth it

For major pieces of furniture my personal feeling that "good enough" is not good enough.

Unless you builde them so that there is a deliberate contrast then I would not do it.

Yeah, your probably right. I'll just use maple and it's gonna be a natural finish.
