I'm looking for a wood that's very white. Holly would work perfectly, unfortunately I can't seem to find a place where I can get pieces bigger than pen blanks that doesn't cost $50 a board foot. I've found lots of spalted holly over at wood barter, but I don't want spalted. I'm not aware of any other woods that show almost no grain and are very white. FYI, I'm planning on making a turret from the Portal games and want to avoid using any paint or stains.

Does anyone know where to get holly or something similarly white and bland at a reasonable price?

You could maybe bleach maple? have you put a holly wanted thread over at woodbarter?

I hadn't posted a holly wanted thread yet. I thought if I can't find any with the search feature that it must not be something normally traded over there. I found lots of other things I want, but not the holly. I'll have to try it out and see.

I've never tried bleaching maple. Any pics of what it looks like, and how it's done?

I don't need lots of holly. Two pieces about as big as your branches would likely be enough. Even a few more smaller pieces that could be glued together would work. I have all the other woods I plan to use, just not that one :(
