Hello guys, still pretty new to all of this & planning to build a bookcase for my nephew's 7th birthday. I've found a design i'd like to model the project off of, though the one i'll be making will probably be 2/3 height of this one. I'm wondering what sort of joinery you guys would suggest at
1. the corners of the case
2. the sides of the case where the shelves join the case
& 3. where the shelves over lap the center support

I'm not so much concerned w/ exactly mirroring the joinery of the design below so much as building a very sturdy case that will overall pretty much look like this one. My best guesses for each joint so far are
1. rabbet joint
2. Stopped Dado joint
3. Edge half lap

Please let me know if you have any better ideas on these joints, or if any of what my best guesses are are actually really bad ideas.

Thanks in advance for your input!

If it were me I would dado the verticle pieces into the shelves and put a faceplate on it to appear like solid planks. It could also be faced out with veneer tape.
