I would imagine a hardware store or funiture making supplier. Did you try rockler and woodcraft. There is another company that has alot of wierd little things like that called Lee Valley. Hope this helps.
I've never seen a piece like that - unless the right hand part in the first picture is where you cut through it or it snapped. If that's the case then it is standard KD hardware - that piece drops in a hole and a bolt comes in at a right angle to screw into the (now broken) hole. The screwdriver slot on the other end is so you can hold it to keep it from twisting as you try to get the bolt to line up in the hole. Any hardware store with an aisle full of nuts/bolts should have it although you might need to buy the mating bolt if the holes are different sizes.

how big are they?

Friends don't let friends use stamped metal tools sold at clothing stores.
I found parts like that at Lowes in the drawer marked furniture. The ones I used had a 1/4 X 20 threaded hole.

I'll look at Lowes here. I emailed Granger, Rockler & Mcmaster-Carr, they all said No, they didn't have.
The device is called a thread insert. They are fairly common to find however I believe the one you have is custom made for that brand of chair you have. Also I would imagine since the chair is manufactured in Malaysia it is probably a metric thread. Probably the easiest fix would be to contact the manufacturer of the chair for a replacement. What I've also done with these type of chairs and especially since the hardware has failed is to redowel and permanently glue the chair together with epoxy.

If you have the name of the company, I noticed that we recently had a member join the forum who is from Malaysia. Maybe he could help you track down the exact part from the company in question - provided they're still in business.
If that thing is basically functioning as a thread insert, you may be able to replace it with something like these: http://www.woodcraft.com/Family/2001048/Threaded-Inserts.aspx

if you asked a Lowes worker. you prolly won't find them. They're in the hardware section in the drawer marked Furniture. might have been HD. I get them mixed up. they're only separated by a street.

I doubt the part is a threaded insert. The first picture is of half the part. Right?

I used to buy a lot of cheap particleboard furniture for the kids when they were small. When they grew up I tore the stuff up to get rid of, but I saved all the hardware that came with them. There were a lot of interesting parts that I thought would be very useful someday, but then I stumbled on a site that sells all that stuff. I’m in a rush to go to work right now and can’t remember at the moment where it was, but I’m sure you can find it on the internet.
Lowes

I have purchased those from my local Lowes store. In the hardware section inside one of the pull out drawers that contain all different types of odds and ends. I found them by scanning the pictures on the front of the drawers, walking real slow.......
Ended up finding a threaded retainer clip that failed on my 1988 John Deere too!
Just a wierd little fitting piece that i never dreamed of finding at Lowes. I love that section of the store. Needed to replace a little piece that attaches the throttle cable to the throttle arm on the carb of my sons go kart.....right to Lowes, right to the drawers...there it was:thumbsup:

The drawer would be marked FURNITURE.

If you don't have any luck at lowes, I purchased some at Menards this last weekend in the hardware aisle... They were located in the sliding bins above all the hardware.
They are called cross dowels http://www.rocklerpro.com/product.cfm?page=367&site=ROCKLER or you can get them at Menards or Lowes.
It appears both of us were wrong. I called the device a thread insert and you called it a cross dowel and this thing is both. It has the cross dowel on the bottom half of it which is broken and the thread insert in the top of it. Without having one to get specific dimensions on the placement of the cross dowel hole, overall length and the bolt sizes I don't think any of us are going to find this thing. I know it would take a better internet than I have to make the search.

I was explaining my experience with those drawers. I think that it is also a good idea to scan the item pictures on the drawer and not exclude all drawers that do not fall under a specific text like "FURNITURE". Had I done that, I would not have found the threaded clip for my tractor....there is no drawer labeled "tractor".
