So, we're planning a kitchen remodel and I thought I might look into making the cabinet doors myself. I'd be doing a simple Shaker Style with the 4 sides and an inset piece. They'd be painted white when completed.

I figured I could go to the local Menards, Home Depot, etc type store and get some 1xwahtever boards of Oak or something and just make some doors and put some 1/4" plywood in the middle. Someone mentioned needing to get "cabinet grade" lumber to make the doors.

Is there a difference between the wood I should use? Are regular boards fine for the sides but Id' want cabinet grade for the plywood inset piece? Just looking for ideas so I can figure out the cost and compare that to the place our designer can have them mass produced.
