I need help selecting a type of wood to use for a kitchen cabinet project. I have made cabinets in the past and have used oak which I have stained and finished. I would like to make cabinets and paint them off-white and antique them. Since I am painting them I would like to know if I could use a less expensive wood for this project and still have the strength needed. Thanks.

So for the raised panel doors you think poplar is good for the panel, stiles and rails?
Yes, but my favorite combo is soft maple stiles and rails with mdf raised panels.
