We are eerily alike, except I retired 8 years ago and took up woodwork after a lifetime of working with metal and machines and being controlled by emergency phone calls involving travelling up to 500 miles per day.
I was about to buy a metal lathe when 'er indoors refused to allow me to walk metal swarf through the house. I saw a video about bandsaw boxes and decided I wanted to do that. Its been fun learning the wrong way to do things in all the wrong order, and now she complains about the sawdust.
(dust extraction is a whole other thing, but make sure you have a good system, to allow you to continue your retirement)
