OK, Today I began gluing up the blank for the top of the living room side table I'm making. Really boring, eh.

Finally got my shop back in order after building these drawers underneath my bench. The undertaking was a couple of weeks duration, it seems most was spent shaving the drawer runners & rubbing paraffin. The overall size of the drawer unit is 47"long, 16"wide & tall.

Spent some time this weekend helping a friend build an enclosure for a portable speaker system. It looks a bit complicated for a portable speaker build but each compartment has a specific purpose. Each speaker will have separate mid range and tweeters. A small subwoofer with a tuned port will be installed in the center cavity. A 12v 50amp bluetooth amplifier and two old Dewalt 18v batteries will power this system. Initial power tests achieved 18 hours of play time at mid level volume for a single battery.

Nephew bought an old farm about a year ago. Updating and remodeling is on going by a carpenter. Pool house needed repair, also. Few months ago I made a new door for the pool house, not installed yet. Previous and this past weekend we cut a hole for a new insulated picture window and got it installed yesterday, with most of the trim installed, also. We stopped work to have some drinks, besides, it was too dark to take decent pics last night. Will update with pics when we install the door, hopefully soon. And we have another large window to install, later, in the next few months.

I made an inset wooden tray for my spouse. She likes that dessert dome and asked me to make a tray for it. The wood is soft maple and walnut. To be honest, I had thin leftovers of maple to use up. Otherwise, it might have been solid maple. The finish is four applications of Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner (mineral oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax).

This was a simple project. The biggest challenge was computing the radius of the corner curves knowing only three measurements: (a) length, (b) width, and (c) diagonal from curved corner to curved corner through the center. Hint: Remember how to solve a quadratic equation?

I set a compass to the correct radius and made a quick pattern using a thin "square corner" scrap and a disk sander. I used double tape on the pattern and a flush trim bit on the router table to shape the corners. I used a 1/4 inch roundover bit on the bottom to match the curved bottom edges. I clamped a scrap backer inside and used a Forstener bit to drill a finger hole through the bottom of the dome to make it easy to remove the tray for cleaning. A little delicate filing (the hole), a little sanding (grits through 240), a few coats of finish. Done.

Nothin' to write home about.

Worked on building a subwoofer and a couple of speakers for my shop today. I finished the speaker boxes over the last two days and got through wiring the two speakers tonight. They sound really good even without the subwoofer. I'll finish wiring and mounting the subwoofer tomorrow and connect up it's dedicated amp. It should sound great when everything is done. I'm going to run them in just the plywood boxes for a month or so. I'll do some frequency response testing and some general listening. If the speaker box and crossover design works as I hope I'll end up wrapping the speakers and subwoofer in cherry and build some grills to dress them up a bit.

Drove 200 miles on my new axle bearings to purchase a used 1200 cfm dust collector with the attachments..$300 and got my old saw sold for a whopping $75. Now I just need a new saw..and new wiring for the shop.. The axles did not fall off..nor did the wheels.. Oh..and i need to get rid of a lot of crap to make room for the DC and saw..
My shoulder has been in really bad shape and haven’t been able to do much. I’m trying to build a small shed to store concrete in but can’t pick up sheets of plywood and needed something to move plywood across rough ground with rocks. I just received a plywood dolly that I ordered from HD and put it together. I have to say I’m really happy with this and wish I would have bought one years ago.

Finished a leather purse for a friend of the wife and am clearing the work area to get back to wood carving. Life would be easier if my "shop" was bigger than one end of the kitchen table!

First coat is shellac sprayed on the bow front. Garnet shellac thinned with alcohol based dye.

Not 100% happy with color, subsequent coats I’m going to tint more on the dark side. O biggie, it’s going to age naturally anyway.
