I guess I could find a larger drum but not quite a 55 gal.

Tony, I use 30 gal cardboard drums for all my dust collection, with a few empty spares for when they fill up too fast.
U Line will have them if you can't source them locally.
That 1 HP Dc is pretty close to my Craftsman 1 HP with a bag filter.
I used it once to collect the chips right out of my thickness planer.
Not much dust, mostly chips and that works OK, but it will fill up quickly.
I can't say I've really found a good use for it yet.
