Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice on this..

I'm installing the Veritas Large Front wood vice to the workbench (dubbed "$175 Workbench") I built.

Veritas instructions call out 2 5/16" and 1 1/4" Saw Tooth Bits.

Question - I'm curious if Hole Saws of the equal size would work as my research shows these Saw Tooth bits are very expensive. I'd plan to chip out the center where the bit is used as a countersink.

Again, thank you for any advice on this..

I have the same Lee Valley Large Front Vise.

I drilled the 1in dia holes for the guide rails, then did a test fit of the collars, drew around the outline and cut out the hole for the collars with chisel and mallet. Hence my hole was flat at the top like the collar. This helps in preventing the collar from rotating and I was able to remove less wood.

The lead screw is 1 1/4in dia which I drilled.
