If you are going to make something for your Valentine, you better get busy!
If you have been doing it, have done it, or are going to why not post your project here.
Here's a little something that I started. I whacked off a piece of Spanish Cedar (she likes the smell) from a 3" thick board I've had forever. I silced it in half with a Japanese ripping pull saw. This project has challenged my handcarving skills. Skills I don't even have!
I roughed the piece out with a Japanese dovetail pull saw then have been hand sanding on it for like ever, off and on. Their is a bottom piece that will go with it and this top piece it will flip up to reveal a small compartment for a jewelry box thnigy. It is all one piece arrow and all, and all handcrafted which is why the heart is not perfectly shaped, because I freehanded sketched that on the wood too. I also need to engrave a nice sappy, mushy something with a palm router, the only power tool I will use. I don't have the time to practice handcarving by chiseling that out.
I hope I can get it done in time. I can't work on it full time. If not, I'll just give it to her unfinished and tell her I'll finish it off for next V-day! ;)
Lemme see hwta you fellas are doing. Ya better not say yer doing nothin!

My wife would just roll her eyes if I gave her ANOTHER thing made of wood as a gift (been to broke to buy her anything , she has alot of wood gifts). That is almost a running joke at our house, wood in general I guess. It's everywhere she looks, the yard is full of logs, the washing machine is full of planer shavings and I am always dragging one piece of wood or another in the house.
She was not super impressed when I did a little "microwave drying" experiment on a piece of soaking wet cypress the other day. It was some smelly stuff. I liken the stench to a pig farmers sweat sock that a cat took a wizz on....that was before I put it in the microwave, then it really got to stinkin'. I did this at 10:00 a.m. and we she got home from work at 5:00 she still gagged coming in the back door (if it was not 5 degrees, I'da opened up some windows).

Not to take away from your thread, nice work. Spanish cedar does have a pleasant smell. Have you got a wood burning tool ? They work good for engraving. I type it out on the computer in fancy font, and print it. Then take a piece of carbon paper and with the printed out sheet over CP transfer the words by tracing on the top sheet and burn them in.

And for sure thanks for the reminder about V-day, I gotta get crackin' (I better write it on my hand or I will forget)

Here is something I made for my wife a few years ago. This year I finished our downstairs bathroom with some uppers, lowers, window shutters and baseboard. My wife likes the things I make for her out of wood.

Valentines Day

M wifes idea of Valentines day excitement, or any day for that matter, is going to the casino. A good present for her is some money.

Yes, she's very romantic. I should have known. On our wedding night, we went to Atlantic City. :cursing:

I'll never marry a Greek women again.

For those of you who are wondering, she has a tattoo on her butt:

EXIT ONLY!!

Those are some very nice gifts.
I love hand made gifts.
I gave my wife this with a letter.
It said its a mystery gift, it contains my heart, and a few hints/love lines.

also gave her a homemade Lovers card, its a paper cutout of 2 hearts joined together, hollow in the center of each, there were some kissing through the cutouts rules on it, good for V day only.

She lost interest before an hr.
Watched TV that night. (slightly sad face)

The dirt was used to hide the joint line.
Inside is heart carved to hold a heart that I carved from Meerschaum rock (got pieces of it in Turkey/Iraq,, taking food to Kurdish refugees 92,, its used to carve pipes)

3 days later I just opened it and showed her.
I'll have to be more creative or interesting next yr?
