I have an old large pine 6x3' table that once belonged in my old high school. This table is covered in carvings of initials and written on with pens, markers etc. I want to put this table on my covered porch but not sure how to "treat" it in order to preserve the drawings and initials on it. If I scrub too hard I rub off ink, if I sand to hard well, you get the picture. Could I just wipe down really well and put polyurethane on it? Very new to this and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

I would try compressed air maybe and use spar varnish. It takes forever to dry but it seems to really hold up. I used it on a mirror frame I made to keep outdoors and the water just beads up and runs off.
