Tabletop pocket hole screws( bad idea?)

@yomanbill is correct. Pocket screws across grain are not correct. Neither are the runners. Technically. I wonder if the two guys are marketing men?

Assuming the oak is dry and acclimated to the inside of your house (or if your shop environment = house) I doubt there will be a problem. I'm only saying that b/c it's quarter sawn material and it's 12" wide, assuming it's kiln dried and acclimated.

I've seen lots of antiques built the "wrong" way and nothing is split or cupped and I marvel at that. Ultimately it's your choice, even though there's likely not going to be a problem, why not do it the "right" way? :)
