My daughter wants me to make a vanity. I have been wanting to do more hand tool work. So last night i made my frist mortis and tennon by hand. Also as of last night i figured hand made mortise and tennon were urban legend. LOL! They were UGLY!!. Tonight i did 12 mortis and 4 tenon. MUCH better. I also cc cut the wood to length. I was surprised my CC was straight and fairly straight.

I really want to do this all with hand tools. The picture is what i am building. How do you think i can do the top with hand tools?

Congrats! Keep at it, it only gets better. The top....yeah.....bend it, or kerf it or get a huge chunk and carve it out like a bombe.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but is there any chance the top is some thin material fastened to two arched frames?

Yes I believe that is how they made it. That is how I plan to do it. I'm thinking of using plywood to create the front and rear curve.

Bent lamination on the top- making the form is the hard part.
