I hope this is the right section to post this in.

I'm making a growth chart for my daughter. Basically, it is going to be a board (1x6 or 1x8 probably) that looks like a giant ruler.

I am going to cut the ruler lines and numbers with my router and paint them. The rest of the board will be stained. I'm not sure whether it would be better to stain the entire board, and then cut and paint, or make the router cuts first. I think it makes sense to stain first, but I'm curious to hear your perspectives.
