One of our own made the paper and brought some attention to what is possible using only hand tools. I'm sure you've all seen some of his incredible work (most of which I couldn't produce with any array of power tools) and for those of us lucky enough to meet or even get to know him over the phone, know he is a great guy and deserves some press!

Thank you all very much. I do appreciate the kind words. I agreed to do the article for the sake of the museum, I'm really pushing to grow it and get it to where I think it needs to be.

There is so much history in Louisiana, especially early agricultural history, that isn't being taught. I'm hoping that over the next couple of years we can better bring to light the historical importance of the Early Gulf Coast craftsmen and their pieces. And continue the movement already begun by the Historic New Orleans Collection with the book: Furnishing Louisiana.

Thanks for the post. Jean is a good guy and a true Craftsman! I'm also a history buff from New England and I'm happy to see his effort on putting the lime light on New Orleans and the different traditions. This is a whole big country, the melting pot of all cultures. It's what makes us strong. I hope to travel through the South some day and stop in at the museum.

This is great! I'm from Hammond, La, and have lots a family in the area. A sister in Galvez and a daughter in Lafayette. I'm very ignorant of the history of woodworking in the area. Looking forward to learning about it, and definitely need to check out that museum on my next trip down there.
