You never know what is under all of the dirt and oxidation. It all looks like pine until you start scraping, planing or sanding(planing for me). This was a nice surprise. 3"x4"x10':

I'm guessing poplar, of the "rainbow" variety. There is also some amazing spalting, of which I need I take a better picture. Lots of black-line spalting, and a decent amount of really nice red-line spalting. I'm not up on my mycology enough to know the specific fungii, but they sure made this wood pretty. It's amazing what you can find in the alleyways of my rough neighborhood.
