Hi all. I'm really new to woodworking, and would appreciate some advice. I want to make some kids toys for my grandson. I'd like to use different colors as well as some sort of protective finish. The most important thing of all is that any finish must be 100% safe for my gnawing, chewing, licking grandson! I have a book that suggested food coloring. I tried that, but the color wasn't very consistent, and the process raised the grain. When I sanded it back down again, I lost a lot of the color. If anyone can tell me what stains/sealers/paints/whatever to use, I'd be most grateful. Also, I love to hear any tips on the process of applying them. Thanks!
