I haven't been on here much the last couple of years, just find myself to busy. I was asked by a business to resaw some rafter timbers that came out of a warehouse here in springfield. They want them split, planed both sides and straightlined one edge. They have 98% of the nails removed, and I have a detector to find the rest. The beams are 14' long and as I was hand planing them I saw that some had been exposed to a fire and sprayed with what I think is KILZ. If I were to take on this job what should I charge for my services?

The wood is roughcut oak, both red and white. There is 650lf of 2" X 8".

I would estimate the time it would take to pick up one timber and take it through all the steps/setups it would take to bring it to the completed product. Multiply that by the number of timbers and you should have a fairly safe time estimate.

Then multiply that by the hourly rate you need to make.
