Remote Starter PROBLEMS

my son had a similar problem with his DC. he uses a wifi plug to start his DC and kept burning out wifi plugs. first return the jet remote if possible, there's a lot of cheap ways to do this. for his system i bought a 6x6 plastic electrical box, duplex receptacle and a definite purpose contactor with a 120v coil. mount the contactor and the receptacle in the box so that the receptacle is accessible. break the connection between the duplex so that you have 2 individual plugs. connect a cord to the contactor and use the power out to apply power to the bottom plug of the receptacle. jumper 120v to the top plug so that it's always hot, plug in any remote like your jet remote or a wifi plug into the top receptacle and then plug in a light weight cord into the remote and use it to energize the 120v coil on the contactor. i've been know to over simplify my knowledge. if you need a wiring diagram i can supply one.

i had a receptacle, a couple cords and already use the wifi system in my house. my only cost was the $25 for the box and contactor. change over to the wifi plug $10 on amazon and use your phone to control the dc or just get a cheap $15 xmas light remote. i use feit electric as costco had specials on them.

for my own dc i use micro switches at each blast gate and a wifi plug as a master cutout to keep anyone from accidently turning it on. the only difference is that my wifi plug controls a 24v wall wart that supplies voltage to the micro switches and the 24v contactor coil. when the wifi plug is on any blast gate micro switch will turn on my dc. i'm sort of a gadget freak 😎

Yes makes sense, Thanks! But mine is 220 can it be done in a similar fashion? Or could I use a magnetic starter, I just happen to have one, and if I can use it, where do I want it? Between the remote starter and the line or between the remote starter and the machine?
Thanks again for your input & time!
If the mag starter has a 120v coil, you'd control only the coil with the remote. The 240v motor would have it's own supply, cord and receptacle. As mentioned, there's probably hundreds of detailed sources online

The contactor listed is double pole and could be used by separating the 120 from the 240 also

here is a link that does what you want How to Set-up A Wireless Remote Control Switch For Your Wood Shop Dust Collector | The Bench Blog

there is many ways to do this. the above is just one.

if the jet start remote can be set back then cost will buy the other parts.
Good find biotec!

Follow the link above, that's exactly how I'd do it. With the exception of a single box, I'd cut a hole for the 240v receptacle in the big electrical box. The120v cord can be any 2 wire light weight cord you have laying around, I'd use 12/3 for the 240v cord.

You can save some money by elimination of the cord and receptacle by cutting the DC cord and install the contactor in line.

Drill half a dozen ¼" holes in the box for heat to escape.

I'm all about diy and keeping cost down. Even if you buy everything, it won't cost $50 and rated for 30 amps it won't be at the edge of it's capacity. No need for dust proof either. The DC operates in the same space as the table saw, it's not dust proof. As a matter of fact, I forgot to mention that you should drill holes in the box for heat to escape from the contactor.

I use that same contactor on my 3hp, 240v compressor. I ran 12/3 Romex for the neutral to energized the 120v coil with a rotary timer. My compressor spent the first 10 years of it's life turned on, now the timer turns it off. Now I'd probably use a WiFi plug. Everything on WiFi system gets turned off at midnight.

As for long distance, I can turn on the DC master plug, lights and stereo from Texas, when friends need my shop in Michigan.
