Hi all,

I've just salvaged some very old floorboards (C18th?) from a barn conversion in the south of England (UK). They've been attached by woodworm and have needed a fair bit of sanding before they look good, but the idea is to make shelves and a doorstep with them.

I've been assuming they were Oak becasue most very old British timber seems to be, But i am not sure now and would really appreciate some help identifying what wood it is to be sure: Two of the pics show the wood finished with beeswax polish, the other two are unfinished.

Also need to decide on the best finish for the doorstep. Its going to get a lot of rough treatment and i don't want it to blacken or for dirt to get in the grain, whats my best option for a finish?

Many thanks,
