Here is a cedar bench I made yesterday for placing in the snow bank next to a skating pond across the street. The kids wanted a bench to sit on when changing into their skates. I haven't decided on a finish yet.

p.s. for kicks, I tried to make several of the dimensions according to the Golden Ratio (from the recent thread). I seems easy, but when calculating some of the angles and lengths of the legs, etc. I needed some heavy geometry (e.g., Sine A = opposite over hypotenuse (in radians)). But I had fun.

If I build another one, I will change the design to incorporate the bolt that runs through the half lap so that it also runs through the bottom of the support strut. That would have been slick.

That looks really nice. I've been thinking about adding one of these to my project list. We really need some type bench for the backyard and I hate the idea of spending a ton of money on the junk being sold in most home improvement centers.
