Hi,

I'm in the process of making a portable table for outdoor events.

I'm going to have two hinges to connect the two halves of my table together, but I'm trying to figure out if there is some sort of special screw or bolt (like some sort of thread I can insert into the wood) that I can use so that I can unscrew/unhook the hinges without damaging the wood over time.

I know the hinges can bend but I'm planning on extending the table in the future.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How about screw and post binding? The other name is escaping me at the moment but instead of the post binding you drill the hole on the hinge side and press this (the threads) into the hole and the screw secures the hinge to this. This allows you to remove the screw as often as you'd like since its not going into the wood but the metal threads. Available in brass, stainless, etc depending on weather and if they are visible or not.

I'll second this idea. Leave the hinge plates in place, and simply pull the pins. Door hinges are what you should look into.
