Good evening WWers! It has been a while since I posted but had a few questions on purchasing poplar. I have quite a few paint grade projects coming up and am needing lumber.
What's y'all's guys take on poplar or painted projects? It sort of feels "fuzzy" to me but never really sanded it above 220. Would the fuzz go away at 320?

Also the best price I can find is $1.35 BF for 9" or less widths 13/16" material. How is that on average? Worth using poplar? Best price around on soft maple for example is $2.35.
Thanks for your input!

The lumber yard price around here is $2.5 / bf. I've found some on cl list for a little over $1 / bf. I painted a bed made from poplar; it turned iut okay. It could have used more sanding. I'll use and paint poplar again.

But if I could get soft maple for 2.35, I would use it.

I just finished building some cabinets for someone out of poplar. I paid $1.85 a bd ft. for FAS including local shipping. The board ran 7" to 12" wide and were mostly white in color. These cabinets were stained a dark walnut color and it did very well.
