I know how to apply and finish acrylic (CA) on the lathe.

I have a large piece of black walnut that I want to use for a coffee table. There some cracks that I would like to fill with clear plastic. I am not sure how to polish the plastic.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you
Andy

Polishing the acrylic would be the same as any other finish. You have to have enough thickness of finish to sand it and polish it out. Use as fine a sandpaper as possible otherwise you have to progressively use finer and finer sandpaper to rub out the scratches the sandpaper makes until you get to about 1500 grit. Then use rubbing compound to bring the sheen back. I like 3m rubbing compound made for a car finish. It is available at walmart.
