I've always thought of this close grain wood with the fleck to be Beech. We see it often in conjunction with wooden utensils as this piece is, used in in the manufacture of home made ice cream paddles. Am I correct and is it still available. I've never seen it in a lumber yard and I don't have wood stores as such in my area. Thanks

It looks like beech to me. I don't know where you can get it in Oklahoma. It's available in 4/4 and 8/4 at Brazos Forest Products in Dallas TX.

Where have you ever seen hickory with the beech flecks ??? I always think of the beech flecks as unmistakable. Haven't seen anything like them on other woods and certainly not hickory. Am I missing something?
