I'm sure this gets asked constantly here. My sincerest apologies for being so unoriginal. I would really appreciate some help identifying these logs I found in Palo Alto, California. : )

I cut off a corner with the band saw. It felt like hard wood. I also gave it some smacks with a hammer as hard as I could and hardly dented it at all. Not sure if that means anything.

When I cut it I tried to smell cedar or redwood. It was very neutral though, if anything there was a hint of vinegar. But I'm still not sure if that was my imagination.
