I am making a play structure for my son. What size beam I should go with for the swings to hang from 4x6, 6x6 or 2 2x8s sistered the span will be 12 feet long? The beam will also double as part of a bridge see the link below. I am leaning more towards the sistered 2x8s but wanted some imput.

I made a set years ago and used a 4x6 and it held up fine. Plus I had it very tall, more like the parks. However, the design you are doing is a little more complicated. With that far of a span while also being a bridge it's better to be safe than sorry. I might consider the 2x8's or even larger with your main vertical supports 6x6's. But I always go overboard on stuff like that

Post some pics when you build it.
