You are right about the CA not filling the gap, not even thick CA does a good job for filling gaps, in my experience with it. I had a couple of blank failures then switched to using epoxy. Since switching no problems, and like bass said CA is for finishing :thumbsup:.
Use epoxy and it will be fine!
