I tried staining a table today that I made this past winter out of peeled hard maple limbs. It is a rustic style table, and the limbs were cut last September (they're about 1" thick). The table top is milled hard maple, 5/4 x 12", and that seemed to take the stain better than the limbs, which were used as the legs. The stain almost completely wiped off of them. After peeling the limbs last fall, I sanded them, but I feel I didn't do something right. Did I not give them enough time to dry? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I don't have any pics at the moment, but I'll get some later today. It looks like you described, a little splotchy but mainly no absorption of the stain.

Thanks,
Pat
