Templates would be the way to go. The brown rolls of paper would be my choice. Rip off a piece the length you want, tape it to the wall vertically, keep adding strips as need. trim it if needed to get the angle along the roof line. You may have to overlap a lot. Or tape it to the wall horizontally. tape it together for the roof angle.

Is that as clear as mud?
