I'm not much of a fine wood worker.

I am experimenting.

I'm looking for a "vehicle" to carry carbon black as deep into walnut as possible without sealing the pours/cells/surface/interior of the wood, and without leaving anything behind except the carbon black. I'd also prefer not to raise grain since I'm hoping the wood will otherwise be in it's final configuration and level of sanding. I've heard mineral spirits is good for visually revealing grain and then it dries quickly without leaving a trace. Would mineral spirits also carry carbon black in, and then disappear, or is there a better product that would meet my goal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
