Newest project start- now with completed pics

I have a friend that decided he wanted some presents made from trees off the old family place. He brought the wood and asked me to make 4 cake plates. Hard to resist a request like that, 'specially since the wood is now in my yard/shop.
Here's a pic of the blanks--- all mesquite.
Will post more pics as I get'em done.

Haven't put the meter to it yet. Really doesn't matter-- it's a very stable and forgiving wood. Would only be concerned if I'm going to do a thin turning. And-- yup, sharp tools in order.

Cake platter pics

Ok! Here are 3 of the 4 cake platters. ( one is AWOL -- being looked at-- buyer excited) Took lots of patience, turquoise, and epoxy. All 6-7 inches high, 11.5 inches across, and yep-/ they're kind of hefty-- don't want it to fall over with Grammy's cake on it! All that's left to do is the epoxy coating on the cake side-- took pics now to avoid the glare. Think I have enough pics to show "how" if there's interest.
