I needed to shoot these ornaments before I give them away tonight so I set them up in my living room. I used a seamless paper back ground but you can use just about anything that is smooth and a neutral color. I place them about 4 feet from my living room double windows. At this time of day it's not direct sunlight. I put a large piece of white cardboard on the left to bounce light back into the shadow side.

I put the camera on a tripod and used my 55-200 lens at about 100mm. I used Auto White balance which worked only because I had the gray background. I would normally use the shaded house white balance setting for this setup. The camera was set in manual mode and shot at 1/3sec at f11. I also used manual focus. I used the self timer to trip the camera because the tripod was on really soft carpet.

The two ornaments on the left are solid. The two on the right are hollow. Left to right, Oak, Cherry, Cherry, Maple with mahogony finial.
