Anyone look over the new delta saw? They sell it at lowes. Looks pretty interesting.

FYI - I bought the Rigid 4512 13 amp professional table saw about a year ago. It's heavy duty, solid, accurate and makes great cuts. I paired it with the newer Diablo 60 tooth blade with their new cut technology and the cuts are absolutely incredible. Example - I ran an 8 foot long sheet of 3/4" plywood through at 45 degrees and the cut was so sharp, true and smooth that sanding would just have made it rougher. I spent $499 on the saw and it's worth every penny I paid, escpecially compared to the smaller portable versions at just about the same price.

On the other hand I've had parts on back order from Delta for over 9 months now...the new owners are having some real problems at Delta these days.

Sold my old Craftsman 113 15 minutes after posting on Craigslist. Fellow travelled 1.5 hours to get it. That brought the price of the Delta down $150. And away we go...

Delta Machinery Replies

I received the following from Delta Machinery to a couple of questions:

Me: Delta part # 78-965 Thin Kerf Riving Knife. Will this work on the new DELTA 13-Amp 10-in Table Saw 36-725?

Delta Machinery The 78-965 and the standard riving knife used on the 36-725 are both 0.087" thick. To answer your question, the 78-965 accessory knife cannot be used on the 36-725 10" Contractor Saw. Bob

Me: Thanks, Bob. One other question, Is Delta going to make a zero clearance throat plate as an accessory?

Delta Machinery Well, that's the plan. There are some design issues related to holding the plate down (in place) during use that need resolving. Apparently, the same tab setup found on the underside of the standard & dado throat plates can't be used. I'm still waiting for the product folks to give me a firm arrival date for the dado throat plate!

Hope this clears up some questions for some of you. On the same note I asked the same question about zero clearance inserts in an email of Leecraft, makers of Zero Clearance inserts for various brands of table saws and their answer was:

Leecraft does not currently make an insert for your saw but will eventually. Janet

I attempted to make my own and it didn't come out too well. I tried using 1/4" Plywood. It was way to flimsy. I may try again with solid wood and see what the results will be. In my design you must remove the riving knife.

Anyone got any ideas?

Not right now. Delta is working on the accessories still. Some things to iron out first. I reckon they wanted to see how well the saw went over before investing in tooling up for accessories.

Any summary thoughts about this vs the ridgid?

Sounds like the blade may not be officially adjustable, but everyones been able to eek out the fraction they need to get into alignment.

keirf is thick, but doesnt sound like anyone's complaining about the requisite blades.

You have to make your own plate.

So with all that said... The ridgid maybe has worked out its kinks, developed accessory market, and sits an extra 70lbs.

Is the consensus that the T2 fence is sufficient to outweigh all these potential negatives vs the ridgid?

AFAIK, they still haven't worked out the alignment ghosts on the R4512, and doubt they will if they haven't done it yet. A new saw in this price range won't have the best of every option, but the Delta is sure looking to be the lesser of two evils to me at this point. It'd wise if Delta offered a TK splitter IMO.

I just got the delta about 2 weeks ago. Never had to adjust the blade to the miter slots, though it is adjustable. Mine was within 003. Everything lined up perfect for me . I like it, I can finally cut miters that are accurate. The fence works smooth, no problems with the fence. The miter gauge adjusts nice and tight without play. It's a big step up for me and I love the dust collection, a biggie too.

Agreed. Did not have to adjust the blade. I'm not sure what blade comes stock on the Ridgid, but I'm guessing that it should be replaced with a higher quality one as well. A zero clearance insert will eventually be available from Delta if you don't want to make your own. T2 fence is a HUGE upgrade from what I was previously working with. No complaints from me. Enjoying my new saw!

Just one comment that the blade trunnions are adjustable if needed and it is explained how to on one of the threads on the Lumberjocks forum, as well to how to make a zero clearance insert.

after doing some basic online searching I opted to get the 36-725 for my home shop. this model is exclusive to Lowes, you apparently cannot buy it anywhere else...at this time.

store helped me load it; 200+ lbs. had to cut the box apart inside the car to unload.
I had read Delta made changes so the instructions might not be entirely correct - and the advice to download the latest manual from their internet site. did that, both the printed and the internet pdf are equally wrong in the same spots. so you just have to toss & turn the pieces until you get the pre-drilled holes to line up, then you see how it goes together.

first problem.... all assembled, plopped on the throat plate - blade is all the way to the left. contacted Delta, they claim they've never seen this problem, could not duplicate it, asked for more pictures then promptly abandoned the inquiry.

so, I had the throat plate modified at my expense. get the blade calibrated, got the mitre block set up & calibrated, rip fence did not have enough adjustment....took a look, there's a plastic wear pad missing.

so I called Delta customer service to get a replacement wear pad. hold on folks, you're not going to believe this but the bogus explanation went:

them: "We'd have to rip one off a saw here."
me: "You don't have repair parts?"
them: "We have warranty parts but we can't...."
their suggestion was to take it back.
thought me: "and why on earth would I buy another?"

bottom line, Delta declines all knowledge and culpability for the screw up,
if you inquire, they drop your claim,
they do not have repair replacement parts for this model (think about that for a minute....)
and basically said "You're on your own."

this is a company with a business model you might wish to avoid.

I'm an engineer, I will find a way to make it work - but for buyers considering Delta, my recommendation would be to think again.

You are more than 100% correct that they should own and fix this problem. If there's any saving grace, the stock throat plate is crap. Make some of your own like we all have for this saw. You'll be much happier.

seems odd that the blade could be off like that?

I havent assembled mine yet, but this is cast iron isnt it? not like the holes can be in the wrong place... or the throat plate can be injected differently...

I kinda wonder if there was an error in assembly that may have caused the blade to be off the left like that?
