Anyone look over the new delta saw? They sell it at lowes. Looks pretty interesting.

....But when I checked the blade alignment from front to back, the front was approximately less than a 64th of an inch further from the left miter slot than the back. I'm not even going to try to adjust the trunnion to align the blade further because for me, I think it's good enough.

Other than the one blade alignment issue, everything else checked out good. I did replaced the stock blade with a Diablo 50T combination. The only bad thing about doing this was I can't use the riving knife because it's thicker than the Diablo blade...thus will not be able to use the anti-kickback and blade guard because both attaches to the riving knife. I'm going to buy another blade so I can utilize all the safety stuff...
A blade alignment deviation of 1/64" across the span of the blade is quite a bit....especially in the direction it's going. It's likely to cause binding, which could lead to kickback....a very precarious situation for a newby or a seasoned veteran. A little deviation in the opposite direction would be less hazardous, but I'd encourage you to get this adjustment within +/- 0.003". If you can't adjust the blade to where it should be, at the very least, adjust the fence so that it's parallel to the blade...it's not ideal, but it's the lesser of two evils.

It's odd that Delta would put a full kerf splitter on a 13 amp saw....it's a perfect candidate for a good 3/32" thin kerf blade, which is easier to spin than a 1/8" full kerf blade. Plus, I'm not even sure that the retailer of this saw (Lowes), even carries a full kerf blade.

As I stated, I measured the blade deviation from the left miter slot. So when using the saw with the fence on the right of the saw, the front of the saw in relation to the fence when measured, will be narrower compared to the back of the blade. Please correct me if I'm wrong, if it was the otherway around, the back of the blade is closer to the fence (pinching the stock when fed through) would potentially or will cause a kickback.

I will re-measure again and I'll buy a dial indicator for a more precise and easier measurement.

You're right Al, I had it backwards . Thanks for clarying the direction of the deviation. It's still a good size deviation that'd be best to correct, but it should toe out from the fence, not in. Whether or not the alignment on this saw can be adjusted is still a question.
I'm relatively knew here as far as posting goes. Congrats on the new Delta. I've been going back and forth between it and the r4512 for two weeks now. My son even works for Lowes. I got a great deal on the 4512 Monday so I brought it home. Still trying to get it fine tuned but so far I'm really happy with it. Hopefully I will get to make some sawdust this weekend to see how she does. I'll be curious how you end up liking that Delta in a couple of months.
I loved my 4512 for the year and a half I owned it. I only just sold her so that I could upgrade to a cabinet saw. She made lots of furniture.
Looked at the saw today at my Lowes. Honestly I did not like it. Imho r4512 is better product. I was hoping that the fence will be better than on ridgid. Nope, I found that there are plastics pad for tuning same as on r4512, splitted rails and fence jump while moving that will affect fence alligment. So if I would have to buy a saw today I will go with ridgid for this price.
Grabbing some bessey clamps at lowes tonight and I checked to see of they had a display. Just a box, so I couldn't play and take pictures.
Update on my Delta 36-725

So far so good. I've made a few cuts already and all were dead square. Since there are no available zero clearance insert for this saw, I made one out of 1/2 Birch plywood...see pic. The insert measures 15 5/8 X 3 3/4. I had to route the bottom of the insert to make room for the arbor flange and the posts for the adjustment screws. I also routed a rabbet around the bottom edge for the lip. I'll be making a sled and french cleats tomorrow as my next project. Overall, I'm very happy with the saw. It's quite, cuts smooth and has a bad ass fence (stays square). Maybe in the future, I'll upgrade the rails to a single piece. But for now, everything looks good. Please don't base your review after testing the saw from a store. The ones from the store are not assembled and aligned properly.

I just purchased and assembled the same TS. I haven't had a chance to(safely)play around with it too much, just a couple small cuts to make sure everything was working correctly. I know one thing's for sure, a Zero Clearance, sled and a couple jigs are definitely in the near future. I just need to figure out how to make the ZC being that I don't have a router or band saw.
Are the trunnions on the Delta table mounted or cabinet mounted?
Here's a pic I took of the Delta at the local Lowe's. As you can see, the (front) trunnion is aluminum and bolted to the table bottom.

Here's another pic where you can see part of the rear trunnion, too. The dust collection looks to be well designed.

The only update I have is that I gave the one at my Lowes the once over and checked all the alignments and movements of the blade up and down and fully over to 45 and back. Could not start it up of course, but from what I could tell it was set up properly. However, I was not able to get the riving knife and blade guard off, so cutting none through cuts would be an issue for me.

I'm keeping my old reliable Cman Flex till it dies I guess. After adding the T2 fence system its a fine saw provided you take into account its limitations.
Lumberjocks has a very long thread on it with pics . Just type in a search for the saw there.
Has anyone been able to actually make a trunnion adjustment on these saws to align the blade with the miter slots?
knotscott asked: <<Has anyone been able to actually make a trunnion adjustment on these saws to align the blade with the miter slots?>>

From the pictures, it looks like you need to loosen eight (Torx head?) bolts that might require some cussing to reach.

Yeah...I'm wondering if the wholes are elongated to allow for some adjustment. I'm puzzled why Delta wouldn't mention this adjustment in the manual....it's not exactly their first TS!
I called Delta on Friday and inquired about trunnion adjustment and the person I spoke with said their trunnions will not work with the PALS system and are not intended to be adjusted. Somewhat disappointing.
blade alignment

There aren't a lot of reviews as it's been on the market for only about 3 months.

The craftsman and ridgid don't seem to have the alignment issues anymore. I think they've fixed it.
I bought a Ridgid R4512 in Oct 2013, and it has the blade issue. I was sick at that time and by the time I checked it, and found it bad, I was beyond Home Depots 90 day return police. I don't know if they have fixed the issue, but you may get one that's been in the store a long time. A person on another forum said he returned 3 of them and never got a good one. The blade on mine never locks in the same place.
regards
Ed
