Hey! This was an experiment to see how a ring would look by hiding the transition from one wood to the next on the sides of the ring. This is Purple Heart on the outer and figured Maple for the liner. The black is just from a furniture touch-up marker but I’d need to use black or brown CA glue to do it right (I use “super-glue” for the finish). I’m also looking into ways to tint the clear glue other colors if possible. Thoughts? 🙂🪵💍

To put a layer of any color on just the ends, pour a thin layer in a tray. Use just enough to dip the ends in and not get any on the band portion.
I wouldn't or couldn't control it sufficiently by painting it on by hand. A slightly soaked layer of cloth may work equally well?

As the artisan you seem to be (based on the rings you're producing), I'd see no problem with painting on the sides of the rings. I'm sure you can get an even, good looking facing on each side of the ring ... with time and patience. Both of those attributes, I'd think, are already in your "toolbag" just to make the pretty creations you've been showing.
