I have a bed set I purchashed, the headboard came a pine color, and the footboard and side rails is a chocolate color. I need to get the headboard close to the other finish. I have been told to try polyshades, but I beleive the furniture comes with a lacquer finish already on it. Polyshade states not to use on lacquer finishes. How can I tell if I have a lacquer finish? Also wha'ts the best way to do this. I cannot return headboard, Levitz went out of business:furious:

There is a way to test to see what type of finish it is but a lost the link and dont remember I think there was 3 diffrent things to try. If it is shellac use alcohol (denatured) There is allso some house hold cleaners that will dissolve shellac too.

There is a book called Understanding wood finishing by bob flexner its a good book with lots of ideas in it.
