I’m in need of some help please. I have an old AMT 12.50 planer. I lost my manual in a house fire. AMT company is no longer in business. I need to know how high my blades need to be so I can build a jig. I don’t want to keep taking it apart just to adjust blades because it takes 45 minutes just to get to blades it a poor design in that sense. Please any help would be great!

Build your jig before you remove those knives!
I have a simple 3 legged knife setting jig from Foley Belsaw that came with my 13" planer. There are two jigs and they straddle the knife with an adjustable screw to get different heights. I highly recommend getting a pair.

There are magnetic ones one days:

I actually use both types. They both work well.

If I were using a jig, I'd get a magnetic one. But you need to check the cutterhead is perfectly parallel to the bed.

I align knives referencing off the table. Yeah, a 2 hour ordeal on a 20" planer, but if you develop a system you can get an extremely accurate set up.
