I've not posted in a while because I forgot my password. In the meantime I have turned a few natural edge pieces from wood I picked up on vacation.
The first is a small cherry burl. I call it semi natural edged because I did cut a rim. There are some voids on the back side.
The next is a mesquite piece that I did for practice. Sharp tools and fast speed will keep the bark on.
The last one is a cherry natural edge. I turned it green and tried to get it thin. I got it to about 3/16. I like the way it came out, but I did lose a piece of bark about 2 1/2 inches long. Also as it has dried, the bark has not moved as much as the wood. This has cause some frantic ca gluing to try and preserve the shape. Next piece I will put in a bag to dry slower to see of that helps.
