I have a friend that is retiring, and moving from the house that has been in his family since his grandfather built it almost 100 years ago. He and his wife have been cleaning out areas that have not been checked out in many years, and came across this mallet. They know nothing of its history, but decided that I would give it a good home.

When are you gonna break that puppy in?
I'm really not sure how to break it in! I would love to know of it's history. It really looks like someone used it to pound on cold chisels. This same friend has given me several of his father's tools; but this one has to be from his mother's side of the family. The date would indicate that it is older than the house.

Heck, it most likely was used in building the house. since it pre dates the house.

The house is build with balloon framing, there are not a lot of uses for a mallet in stick built construction; but who knows! It's one of those tools that could tell a lot of stories.
